“It’s the doctor who asks”… A former doctor tried for sexual assault on patients

He is being tried behind closed doors until Friday by the criminal court of Châteauroux (Indre). Since Monday, a former general practitioner has been forced to explain his actions after being accused by several patients of sexual assault and rape. In total, investigators identified 24 victims, according to comments from the Châteauroux public prosecutor, reported by the newspaper The New Republic.

For Me Sébastien Robin, one of the lawyers for two complainants who have become civil parties, “it is not certain that all the victims are present”, the investigators “having not a priori not managed to go back before 2010-2011”.

Touching during medical examinations

The case started following a report from a legal representative of one of the victims, in 2020. During their hearings, the patients spoke of touching by the former general practitioner, now aged around sixty. of years, on the chest and penis. Acts carried out during medical examinations, between December 2013 and December 2020. One of the women even reported rape.

During searches of the medical office, investigators discovered in the computer equipment compromising videos of patients, filmed without their knowledge, with a mobile phone during the medical consultation. These videos are “particularly unbearable”, according to Me Sébastien Robin.

Psychologically fragile patients

The general practitioner asked his patients, who presented a certain psychological fragility – women under guardianship in particular – to masturbate or take explicit positions even though the appointment was not suitable for this, according to a judicial source.

“In the minds of these women it was: ‘It’s the doctor who is asking so if he asks it means it must be done’”, explains Me Sébastien Robin. The doctor has since been struck off by the Order of Physicians at his request.
