Israel News: Fierce fighting between Israeli soldiers and Hamas in Gaza

Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor praises Germany’s support for Israel in the fight against Hamas, but at the same time criticizes Germany’s abstention from the UN vote on war. “Chancellor Scholz clearly stood by Israel’s side immediately after the Hamas terrorist attack. And that’s where he remains to this day,” Prosor told the German Press Agency. Israel greatly appreciates Germany’s support. “German voting behavior in the UN General Assembly has been “disturbing for years and in this latest case even more than disappointing.”. The resolution passed last Friday neither condemned the Hamas attack nor included Israel’s right to self-defense or a call to free the hostages.

The resolution calling for an “immediate, permanent and sustainable humanitarian ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip was approved by 120 countries. Germany was one of the 45 countries that abstained. The USA voted against it along with 13 other countries. Scholz (SPD) defended Germany’s abstention at the weekend. Germany had “worked hard to reach a resolution from the United Nations General Assembly that does justice to the situation,” he said. “When we didn’t succeed, we abstained from voting.”
