On Sunday, the human rights activist Irina Sherbakova in Hamburg once the Marion Dönhoff Prize received, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz gave the eulogy for the 73-year-old German and cultural scientist. As a founding member of the human rights organization Memorial, she has been committed to coming to terms with the crimes of the Soviet era since 1989 – shortly before the start of the war, Russia’s Supreme Court ordered the dismantling of the country’s largest civil society organization. Nevertheless, another speech will be held at Memorial on Saturday – at the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, which the organization receives together with others.
