Interview with historian Ian Morris – Culture

The English historian Ian Morris draws the broad lines. A conversation about “Big History”, Brexit, China and Putin.

Ian Morris is an example of how alive scholarship can be. The author of the 2011 bestseller “Who rules the world?” from the home office in Boulder Creek. The Californian town is surrounded by a redwood forest in the mountains south of San Francisco. An hour’s drive away, Morris teaches philology and history at Stanford University. It’s eight o’clock in the morning local time, but the 62-year-old is bubbling with knowledge and wit – in the style of his new book “Geography is Destiny”, which takes a run-up of 10,000 years not only to explain Brexit.
