Inheritance tax – FDP is considering relief – economy

The additional burden for real estate heirs from January 1st could now turn out to be lower than planned. The FDP wants to increase the allowances in order to mitigate the consequences of the planned change in the law. Christian Dürr, FDP parliamentary group leader in the Bundestag, spoke out in favor of this. The law was introduced by the Federal Ministry of Finance. Thus, the own party is opposed to a plan by Finance Minister Christian Lindner. A passage in the Annual Tax Act 2022 has caused an uproar among property owners. The tax assessment of real estate is to be adjusted to market developments from January 1st. This means that real estate would be valued 20 to 50 percent higher. This means significantly higher inheritance and gift taxes, especially in boom regions. The changes in inheritance “by no means only affect people with high incomes,” said Dürr. Higher allowances should help here. Currently, the allowances are 500,000 euros for spouses, 400,000 euros for children and 200,000 euros for grandchildren.
