In Lyon, two high school students arrested after mortar fire

Two high school students were arrested on Friday in Lyon after mortars were fired at a high school in the 8th arrondissement, targeted by a group of a dozen people, without causing any injuries.

The two people arrested were “identified as students and having participated in the action,” police said. The group of “hooded young people”, according to the rectorate, set fire to trash cans and launched “a few mortar shots”. The incidents took place around 7:30 a.m.

“No violence tolerated” against the Republic school

In an email addressed to parents of students, revealed by the Actu Lyon websitethe principal believes he was “expressly” targeted by “a violent attack”.

“The rector firmly condemns these facts which seriously endangered the safety of the students and staff of the establishment, and provides his support to the entire educational community. No violence against the Republic school can be tolerated,” reacted the rectorate.
