The improvement in French hospitals continues. The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized and in critical care services is still declining, but the number of contaminations continues its upward trend, according to data from Public Health France published on Friday.
In total, 7,275 Covid patients are hospitalized (including 147 new hospitalizations in twenty-four hours), against 7,384 on Thursday. And 953 serious cases are treated in critical care services (including 30 new admissions in twenty-four hours), against 971 cases Thursday and about 2,300 a month earlier. The number of patients in critical care due to Covid fell below 1,000 on Wednesday, for the first time since September 23.
4,580 new contaminations
But if the hospital’s numbers continue to drop, the number of cases has tended to increase again in recent days, which is attributed to the Delta variant, which is more contagious. According to Public Health France, 4,580 new contaminations were recorded in the last 24 hours, against 4,442 the day before and around 3,100 a week ago. The positivity rate (percentage of people who tested positive out of all those who performed a test) remained at 1% for the second day in a row, against 0.9% on Wednesday.
18 new deaths were recorded at the hospital in twenty-four hours, bringing the total toll since the start of the epidemic to 111,331 deaths (including 84,858 in hospital). Since the start of the vaccination campaign, 35,556,011 people have received at least one injection (or 52.7% of the total population) and 26,850,994 people have been fully vaccinated (or 39.8% of the population).
