In an emergency, disused wood stoves can be used for heating – Bavaria

For fear of a gas shortage, wood stoves that have already been shut down can be used again for heating in Bavaria in an emergency. “In the current gas crisis, we have to prepare ourselves and exhaust all possibilities to use regenerative domestic fuels. In the event of an emergency, we also allow the temporary continued operation of wood furnaces that have already been shut down,” said Bavaria’s Environment Minister Thorsten Faithr (free voters) on Friday in Munich. In order to create the legal framework for this, his ministry has concluded an agreement in principle with the state guild association for the Bavarian chimney sweep trade. Wood furnaces, such as tiled stoves, which have already been taken out of operation due to statutory renovation periods but have not yet been dismantled, are affected by a possible restart. These should now be used again for a transitional period in emergencies. The failure of the district heating, the gas supply or another central heat supply are considered emergencies. The emergency regulation affects all systems that were built before December 31, 2004. The district administration authorities have been instructed to issue corresponding general decrees that allow these wood-burning stoves to be put back into operation for a certain period of time. How long this is was not initially announced. The aim of the general decrees is to avoid complex individual decisions.
