IMF – decision on Georgieva postponed – economy

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) did not make a decision on Friday about the future of Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. The IMF said that the Board of Directors has made significant progress but will request further clarification in order to conclude the review soon. The Board of Directors discusses Georgieva’s alleged role in a World Bank data manipulation scandal. According to their lawyers, the allegations are flawed. The IMF boss herself has repeatedly denied the allegations. The background to this is an investigation by the law firm Wilmer Hale, according to which leading representatives of the World Bank – including its then managing director Georgiewa – are said to have exerted “inappropriate pressure” on employees in order to make China better in the ranking of the “Doing Business” report 2018.
