Agnieszka Holland gives interviews in a courtyard in the center of Warsaw. She is currently talking to Czech television when a man in shorts, a kepi and a military shirt comes along, takes photos without being asked, and gets involved. Holland stands up and talks for several minutes to the man who is about two heads taller and who crosses his muscular arms in front of his chest. “You’re not Polish,” he says. Holland was born in Warsaw in 1948 and has lived in France since 1981. In the man’s view, she shouldn’t allow herself to criticize the policies of the right-wing PiS government; he sees her as an enemy of Poland. “Poland is big,” Holland tells him, spreading his arms out. “One can have different opinions in this country.”
