IAA Mobility in Munich: protest camp of the IAA opponents in Luitpoldpark – Munich

The opponents of the IAA Mobility also want to set up a protest camp in Munich this year. It should last from September 5th to 10th and offer space for around 1500 people. Now it is also clear where the camp will take place: in the Luitpoldpark. According to the organizers, the district administration department (KVR) had initially specified the Bavariapark as the camp location, but the commitment had been withdrawn.

“With the Luitpoldpark we have found a central place for our camp,” said a spokeswoman for the organizers. “In the city center, directly at the exhibition sites, we will counter the IAA with our activism for a climate-friendly mobility turnaround.” A large-scale demonstration is also to start from the Luitpoldpark on September 10th.

Unlike two years ago, the IAA opponents, which according to the announcement include Fridays for Future Munich, Attac Germany and “Sand im Getriebe”, cannot set up their camp on the Theresienwiese. Preparations for the Oktoberfest have been going on there for some time.

At the last IAA 2021 there were violent protests against the auto show, including from the camp at the time. The organizers of the protest camp are calling for “an end to car traffic as we know it” and want to use the camp to “advertise for a different form of mobility and offer a stage for those who have ideas for a real climate-friendly mobility turnaround”.
