Hyundai Ioniq 6: A little Porsche, a little Tesla – especially flat

The second car of the Hyundai sub-brand Ioniq is official: With the Ioniq 6, the South Korean car manufacturer is showing the finished product from the so-called Prophecy study. The manufacturer apparently pays particular attention to an aerodynamic line with the 6 Series, the air resistance value is only 0.21 and is the lowest that the manufacturer has been able to achieve so far.

The idiosyncratic design is responsible for this: depending on the angle, the rear reminds a bit of the old Honda Civic with the spoiler directly below the window, but also of an Audi and Porsche.

Less resistance, less consumption

The front also has many role models: If you want, you will quickly recognize a Tesla here, maybe even a little the Lamborghini Urus. The resemblance to the Porsche Taycan is also hard to deny.

There is no lack of technical finesse to reduce air resistance. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 works with active air flaps on the front end and digital exterior mirrors to offer as little a target as possible. What you don’t see in the pictures: A full paneling of the underbody, optimized deflectors and reduced wheel arch clearances also contribute to the aerodynamics.

The cockpit is – typically electric car – very reduced and apart from large displays offers hardly any elements worth mentioning. Hyundai apparently also attached great importance to the interior lighting, the Ioniq 6 should offer a choice of 64 colors and six dual color themes.

Missing Facts

Hyundai celebrates its world premiere in July – that also explains why hard facts about the vehicle are currently still missing and the manufacturer doesn’t have much to show apart from pictures. This saves the technical data of the Ioniq 6 as well as the price of the vehicle.

According to initial reports, Hyundai is aiming for a range of around 650 to 700 kilometers for the car and wants to keep charging short at 30 to 40 minutes. Under discussion are drives with 229 hp for the rear-wheel drive and 585 hp for the all-wheel drive version.
