The attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines and Deutsche Bahn communication cables demonstrated the vulnerability of the 30 NATO countries. What can countries do to protect their critical infrastructure?

Of

Björn Finke and Hubert Wetzel, Brussels

The attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines and communication cables of Deutsche Bahn have also caused concern at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Admittedly, at least according to public information, there is still no reliable information at Allianz as to who is behind the acts of sabotage. But for the defense alliance, the question of who was the perpetrator is not the most important one. More decisive is the question that the NATO defense ministers will discuss at their meeting this Wednesday and Thursday: How can the 30 NATO countries, whose vulnerability has just been demonstrated, protect their critical infrastructure with any degree of reliability?
