Some time ago, the head of the Volkswagen car brand asked 50 newly appointed young managers to “come back to work,” he said at a public appearance. The reaction, according to Schäfer: “A shitstorm” because it was “from yesterday”. After 20 minutes the resistance became too much for him and he said: “You don’t have to work here.” If you want to work energetically on a topic, you have to be there, says Schäfer. “Sorry, I have a different understanding and I stand by that.”
