Highly anticipated, the Olympic swimming pool will not open before 2028

The project is becoming clearer but we will have to wait a little longer before taking a dip. Mentioned for several years, the future Olympic swimming pool in Rezé, near Nantes, is entering its operational phase. This week, the elected officials of Nantes Métropole will vote on the detailed program of the structure, which should not open its doors within the future ZAC Pirmil-Les Isles before the start of the 2028 school year, we learned on Monday.

As announced, this swimming pool will house a pool of 50 meters and another of 25 meters, both with ten swimming lanes. The first will be equipped with a “mobile dock” in order to divide it into several zones allowing various uses at the same time. Another detail: the equipment will finally have a paddling pool of 60 m2, for beginners and families. A 750-seat grandstand will also be created.

Environmental performance

Because this 52 million euro project aims to overcome the strong tensions that currently exist in the metropolis in terms of swimming pools, whether for high-level athletes (artistic swimming and racing swimming), associations but also individuals. . The latter should in particular benefit from slots at lunchtime and on weekends, promises Ali Rebouh, deputy mayor of Nantes in charge of sport.

The elected official also ensures that the swimming pool will be exemplary in terms of environmental performance. Water consumption will be 90 liters per bather per year, “30% less, for example, than the Nantes Léo-Lagrange swimming pool”, with comparable volumes of water. Photovoltaic cells will cover “at least 10% of the electricity consumption” of the swimming pool, connected to the heating network.
