“He who sees Ouessant sees his blood”… Thomas Pesquet shares a superb photo of the island from space

He took more than 85,000 photos during his first stay aboard the ISS in 2017. And in 2021, for his second mission in space, Thomas Pesquet did it again, each time astonishing Internet users with his incredible photos taken from the station and published on its social networks. On earth, the French astronaut has not lost his good habits, distilling some of his archives whenever he wants.

On Tuesday, he published a magnificent photo of the island of Ouessant in Finistère. “The ISS flying generally from west to east around the Earth, it was often the first land of mainland France that I saw, sharing in this the lot of long-distance sailors, Cape Horniers, Newfoundland and many others,” says Thomas Pesquet on his X account, delighted with the effect that emerges from his photo. “I really like the texture of the water in this photo, probably a very cool day,” he comments, quoting in passing the proverb “He who sees Ouessant sees his blood.” »

“As a child, this somewhat lugubrious maxim reminded me of the moonless nights of lighthouse keepers, populated by sea monsters and specters,” he remembers. Thomas Pesquet is currently touring bookstores in France to sign his latest books.
