Hard drinks and green Veltliner – Munich

There’s a lot going on in the last week of April – unless you’re a sucker for non-alcoholic cocktails. Because from next Tuesday the biggest bar festival in Germany will take place Cocktail X for the first time in Munich in the form of the 1st Munich Cocktail Week instead of. A total of more than 30 Munich bars take part – with workshops, tastings, music events, readings and parties. The start is next Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Herzog-Bar, Maxburgstraße 4.

Of course, drinking your way through all the venues could get tiring from there. Because in every bar there is a welcome drink in miniature format if you have purchased a ticket for the cocktail week. “Carried out and served in a tasting glass”, according to the organizers, “gives the guest the opportunity to immerse himself in the drink and give him his full attention.” After all, they even compare the art of mixing cocktails with classical music: “The instruments are the ingredients.” And further: “The result: sophisticated cocktails, sometimes delicate like a fugue, sometimes daring like a chanson, sometimes overwhelming like a great symphony.”

Sounds like the writers enjoyed some pretty awesome drinks before hitting the keys. You can get them, for example, in bars like The Foundry, in the Garcon, in the Herzog, in the Amari-Bar, in the Flushing Meadows, in the Jahreszeiten-Bar in the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, in the Roomers, in the Bambule, in the Gingko and in another 20 Munich bars of the better category, across the whole city (Cocktail X Festival in 30 Munich bars, Tuesday to Saturday, April 25th to 29th, tickets 30-90 euros, www.cocktail-x.com).

The Austrian Weinviertel is generally considered to be the home of Grüner Veltliner, and for several years efforts have been made to raise awareness of the region and its special product in Germany as well. You can now get to know both of them better in the Old Congress Hall Weinviertel on tour – 54 winegrowers will be guests there next Thursday and will present their products, some of them in “Wine Walks”, where sparkling wines, insider tips, but also red wines will be presented by trained sommeliers. There is also a program for professionals, but normal wine lovers can also take part in the free tasting in the hall from 4 p.m (Weinviertel on tour, Alte Kongresshalle, Bavariapark 14, Thursday, April 27, 4-8 p.m., admission: 15 euros, www.culinarium-bavaricum.de).
