On the second day of Hamburg’s port birthday, the band Scooter, among others, performed on a floating stage at the landing stages. There was also a big fireworks display.

“Happy Birthday to the Port of Hamburg!” frontman Baxxter shouted to the thousands of spectators at the jetties. His band played on a pontoon stage, which is part of the harbor birthday for the first time this year. Meanwhile, the fireworks bathed the Elbe in colorful light. Parallel to the birthday fireworks, the band played some of their biggest hits – including “How Much Is The Fish?” and “One (Always Hardcore).”

Musical hits at the Landungsbrücken

At the music show “Elbe in Concert”, the actors from Stage Entertainment enchanted the audience with excerpts from their musical repertoire. Among other things, they sang a medley with songs from the long-running Hamburg musical “The Lion King”, the musical “Frozen” and the new production “Hercules”, which premiered at the Neue Flora at the end of March.

Visitors could also look forward to a foretaste of another new show: the musical “& Julia” will premiere in the Hanseatic city in autumn. There were already three songs to hear. “Julia” actress Chiara Fuhrmann sang the song “Roar” by Katy Perry on the folk festival’s new pontoon stage.

Afterwards, the leisure men’s choir “Die Hamburger Goldkehlchen” performed. The 90 by 30 meter pontoon is moored in front of the jetties during the harbor birthday – and is intended to link the celebrations on land and on water more closely. According to the organizers, the impressive stage construction weighs almost 180 tons and the pontoon even weighs 9,000 tons. It was delivered from Rotterdam and took eight days to assemble.

Fireworks at the jetties

At the end of the show there were big fireworks in the harbor. Large screens broadcast the stage program. Thousands of people had gathered at the jetties to watch the spectacle.

Tall ships as a crowd puller

The crowd pullers on the second day of the port’s anniversary were the tall ships “Alexander von Humboldt II” and “Dar Młodzieży”, which can be viewed at the jetties.

With sunshine and temperatures around 20 degrees, there was a lot of activity on Friday from the fish auction hall to the Kehrwiederspitze, where this year’s partner country Latvia presented itself at its own “Latvia Festival”.

Latvian craftsmanship at the port birthday

With Latvian music and folk dances, the Baltic country gave an insight into its culture and traditions. But Latvian craftsmanship and cuisine – such as the country’s own beer – also attracted interest from the guests at the port birthday.

Business delegation from Riga in Hamburg

On a political level, too, the four-day harbor festival is intended to strengthen relations between Hamburg and the Latvian capital Riga: A business delegation from Latvia is using the harbor anniversary as an opportunity to visit the Hanseatic city. In April, Hamburg’s Senator for Economic Affairs Melanie Leonhard (SPD) traveled to Riga.

Extensive program

Already On Thursday, the harbor birthday attracted many people to the jetties. The highlight was the traditional entry parade. A total of several hundred thousand guests are expected in Hamburg by Sunday. You can experience a lot at the harbor festival again this year – there is an extensive program for the approximately four kilometer long promenade on the Elbe. NDR Hamburg is the media partner of the stage in front of the Old Elbe Tunnel. NDR 90.3 presenter Philipp von Kageneck presents the program “At the Landungsbrücken Open Air” on stage.

Guests can also board the ships

A total of around 250 ships are taking part in the 835th Hamburg Port Anniversary. Many of them can be visited. For example, the deep-sea tug “Elbe” is moored at the jetties. A shuttle to the “Peking” also leaves here. Visitors can also take a look into the engine rooms at the Überseebrücke, in the Hafencity, in the harbor museum, in the Hansahafen and in the Övelgönne museum harbor. Opening times and information about the visits, some of which are subject to a fee, can be found on the page Ship tours at the port birthday 2024 to find.

Traveling by subway and S-Bahn is recommended

Since many streets between the fish auction hall and the Elbphilharmonie are closed, visitors should travel by subway and S-Bahn. The Hamburg transport association is expanding its offering during the day and also at night. However, there are restrictions on the Elbe ferries.
