Harald V. from Norway has tested positive for the corona virus. The palace announced this on Tuesday.

Norway’s King Harald V. (85) has tested positive for the corona virus. According to media reports, the palace announced this on Tuesday (March 22).. “The king has mild symptoms and will be on sick leave in the coming days,” the royal family said. Crown Prince Haakon (48) temporarily takes over the duties of the monarch.

Crown Prince Haakon only took over his father’s official duties at the end of January. King Harald V could not work because of cold symptoms. The monarch has been on sick leave several times in recent years, including in 2020 when he underwent surgery for a new heart valve.

Corona in the European royal houses

Before Harald V., some high-ranking European royals had recently been infected with the corona virus. In February, the British royal family announced that Queen Elizabeth II (95) had tested positive. She too had mild symptoms. Before her at the beginning of 2022 were the British heir to the throne Prince Charles (73), Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II. (81) and Spain’s King Felipe VI.
