Hamburg Airport: Large rush expected after warning strike | NDR.de – News

At Hamburg Airport and at eight other German airports – including Hanover and Bremen – there was another strike on Tuesday. The consequences will also be felt on Wednesday.

The union ver.di had called on the security staff not to come to work all day – that’s why there were no take-offs of passenger planes at Hamburg Airport on Tuesday. Now travelers have to prepare for the aftermath of the warning strike on Wednesday. After the complete failure on Tuesday, the flights will be heavily used on Wednesday, as the airport company announced on Tuesday.

Passengers should arrive earlier on Wednesday

“Hamburg Airport expects a particularly high number of passengers and at times a heavy rush at the security checkpoints.” All passengers are therefore asked to arrive early, plan more time and reduce luggage to a minimum.

88 launches axed

In the ongoing nationwide collective bargaining dispute between security forces at airports, the ver.di trade union called on Tuesday for the second time within a week employees in passenger control and in personnel and goods control to go on an all-day warning strike. Actually, 88 departures were planned for this day, but all of them were canceled for the passengers. In addition, 31 of the planned 92 arrivals were canceled. In order to compensate for the canceled flights, the airlines are expected to make many rebookings for Wednesday. 99 take-offs and 98 landings are planned for the day.

“Breaks any level of tolerability”

The collective bargaining conflict has been deadlocked for three rounds of negotiations. Ver.di is not moving at all when it comes to the demands, criticizes the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies. In the past week, the collective bargaining talks, which were also accompanied by warning strikes, remained without result. The security personnel work on behalf of the Federal Police. Airport operators and passengers would become a “plaything of a professional group” as a result of the warning strike, criticized Ralph Beisel, head of the German Airport Association. The strike was called “all day, across the board and with the shortest possible warning”, which “exceeds any measure of tolerability”.

Ver.di demands higher hourly wages

Among other things, Ver.di is calling for the hourly wages for aviation security services to be increased by at least one euro per hour and wages to be adjusted regionally.
