Grasbrunn: New spatial concept for the elementary school – district of Munich

The Neukeferloh elementary school is to be renovated. The Grasbrunn municipal council decided unanimously this week. A completely new spatial concept is planned. A planning group, which includes representatives from the administration, the primary school, the children’s world, the kitchen, the lunchtime care and all municipal council groups, is now to develop ideas for the concrete design.

One of the plans is to remodel the kitchen of the neighboring day-care center. This is currently under the roof of the facility and is therefore exposed to the heat in summer. In the future, the kitchen will be housed in the basement of a new building. In addition, cooking should no longer only be done for the children in the children’s world, but also for the school children and the children in the lunchtime care. The rooms for lunchtime care are also to be replanned. A new workshop plus garage for equipment is also under discussion. Finally, the playground should be made more natural and interesting.

“It is a long-term project,” says Mayor Klaus Korneder (SPD). The primary school currently offers enough space for all students, so there is no need to rush. There are currently 272 students at the school, which can accommodate 400 to 448 children. With the redesign, the municipality wants to be able to respond better to the different needs of parents in the future. “Some want their children to be safely accommodated until 4 p.m., while others want a certain degree of flexibility so that they can pick up their children earlier on some days and later on others,” says Korneder. For the latter, open all-day care with voluntary afternoon classes is an option.

In the long term, however, there are also plans for an all-day train, i.e. one all-day class for each grade. “As soon as the new gym was built, the idea of converting the old gym for all-day care came up,” says Korneder. So the area is there. An underground passage from the school to the old gymnasium is also planned. For financing, the first funds are to be included in the 2023 budget. It is still unclear what state support can be expected.
