Due to momentous bottlenecks at German airports, the federal government promised quick regulations last Wednesday so that operators can temporarily hire staff more easily. The workforce that is lacking in baggage handling, among other things, is to be recruited primarily in Turkey.
In order to make Germany more attractive to skilled workers, “a lot of homework needs to be done,” added Faeser. “We need faster recognition of professional qualifications and less bureaucracy.” Together with her SPD colleague Heil and Minister of Education Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP), she is working intensively on it. In addition, it must be clear that this is not about wage dumping, but “about good, collectively bargained jobs from which people can live”. Here the government is on the side of the unions. Faeser emphasized that on the way to modern immigration law, she pays “very close attention to balanced solutions and acceptance by the population”.
