The government again called on Wednesday for a “massive vaccination” against Covid-19, which is “the trump card” to face the “risk of a rapid fourth wave” with the rise of the Delta variant.
At the end of the Council of Ministers, government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced the holding of a new Health Defense Council on Monday, which should examine a possible compulsory vaccination for certain professions, possible border restrictions and the possibility of an extension of the health pass.
In the meantime, the government has not announced any new measures during the Sanitary Defense Council which was held in the morning. The Delta variant, which is “formidable and extremely fast”, “represents more than 40% of contaminations” in France, said Gabriel Attal. “Eleven regions are seeing their incidence rate increase, with particularly strong epidemic dynamics in PACA or Ile-de-France,” he added, specifying that the situation was deteriorating as rapidly in Reunion Island or in Martinique. .
The test positivity rate increases slightly
Faced with this resumption of the virus, “vaccination is our trump card to get out of the tunnel”, repeated the spokesperson, for whom “France is not an anti-vaccine country” but has “a lot” of people who say, “I’m waiting” to get vaccinated. For him, “the time has come for general mobilization” for “mass vaccination” and “everyone has a share of the solution, everyone can take part in the collective immunity test”. Public Health France counted 3,585 confirmed cases on Tuesday in twenty-four hours, the highest daily figure since June 12.
The positivity rate (percentage of people tested positive out of all the people who performed a test) is at 0.9% (consolidated over seven days), stable compared to the figure of the day before, but slightly up compared to the previous day. 0.8% recorded last week.
Since the start of the vaccination campaign, 34,894,204 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 51.8% of the total population) and 25,357,161 now have a complete vaccination schedule (37.6% of the population), finally indicated the Directorate General of Health.
