Sometimes Google takes a little longer to integrate practical functions directly into Android. It took until Android 13 for the company to build a QR code scanner right into the system.
As mentioned, the upcoming Android 13 brings salvation. The Android operating system then integrated its own QR code scanner directly via the quick settings. Unfortunately, it does not currently appear that Google will also make the new feature available for older Android versions via Google services. Which is a shame.
Android 13 allows direct QR code scan
In Android 13, Google Pixel users will be able to find and use the QR code scanner right in the quick settings. To date, you can also simply scan QR codes with activated Google Lens if you open Google Camera and hold on a QR code. There is a button to trigger what the QR code is for.
The new scanner may trigger the respective action directly when the code is recognized, which would be a little faster and more convenient. In any case, it’s something I’m happy about, even if I rarely come across QR codes in everyday life. It is a disadvantage for third-party app developers who offer corresponding apps and thus become virtually superfluous.
Google was late here again, but Pixel users are happy anyway
I know that some smartphone manufacturers have already integrated a QR code scanner and are way ahead of Google in doing so. Above all, customers with Google Pixel can look forward to the new Android feature. However, it is also possible that other OEMs will abandon their own developments and simply adopt the Google feature for their own devices.
This is new in Android 13
The new Android version is less comprehensive than its predecessor. Instead, Google has made an effort to improve and expand a few existing features. For example, there are many more color palettes for Material You’s dynamic colors. But things like the media player in the Quick Settings will also be improved and there will even be a QR code scanner integrated directly into the system!
Google restricts external apps’ access to files and media, expands data protection/privacy functions, no longer allows apps to automatically deliver notifications, better controls the clipboard, allows other languages on a per-app basis and improves multitasking. There are also a few innovations for Pixel Launcher.
Android 13 is also the launch of Google Wallet, bringing Game Dashboard to non-Google Pixel devices.
