The presenter’s joke flops: Taylor Swift couldn’t laugh about that

The reviews are devastating: The comedian Jo Koy hosted the Golden Globes ceremony and failed with the audience. He especially didn’t do himself any favors with a joke about Taylor Swift.
It’s a job that hardly anyone seems to want. It was only a few days before the Golden Globes that it was clear who would host the ceremony. Industry greats like Chris Rock and Ali Wong are said to have refused. With the US comedian Jo Koy, a relatively unknown presenter, dared to take the microphone in front of Hollywood celebrities on Sunday – and it pretty much flopped.
“Wow, I’ve never seen the mood in the room turn against a moderator so quickly,” wrote a reporter from the New York Times. to “X”. Others simply called the performance “catastrophic”. Koy, who is best known in the USA for guest appearances on the late night show “Chelsea Lately”, even turned against his gag writers after boos.

“Hey, I just got the job ten days ago and you want a perfect monologue? Shut up! Are you kidding me? Hang on. I have a few of them (of jokes, editor’s note) written and these are the ones you laugh at,” he shouted from the stage. His rather old-fashioned and predictable sayings about the age of Robert de Niro, the length of “Oppenheimer” and (yes, really) the breasts of Barbie raised the eyebrows Barely any mood.
A gag still made the rounds online – but not because it was so funny: Koy tried a joke about Taylor Swift, who was nominated for her music film “The Eras Tour”. “The biggest difference between the Globes and the NFL is that we don’t film Taylor Swift as often at the Globes. I swear, we just have more choices!” Koy said, referring to the pop star’s relationship with football player Travis Kelce. Swift kept a straight face and took a sip from her champagne glass, clearly bored.
With this she must have spoken from the hearts of many viewers. “Taylor Swift’s reaction fits the mood” and “I think Taylor Swift would rather go to NFL games than to a gala like this,” were the comments online. An “X” user summed it up aptly: “Jo Koy won’t recover from this.”
