Gérard Depardieu’s family comes to the actor’s rescue and denounces “a cabal” against him

After the shocking TV documentary “Complément d’investigation” broadcast on France 2 on Gérard Depardieu, and the salvos of threats which have since weighed on the actor, his family is launching a media response this Sunday. She denounces “a cabal” in a column published by the Sunday newspaper.

“Of course, we are often shocked by Gérard’s comments, but our father, grandfather, uncle, is given over to an unprecedented cabal,” write several members of his family, including his daughter, the actress Julie Depardieu, in this text. Deploring a “collective rage” against the actor, they assure that, “in private, with his children, he is someone extremely modest, delicate and even prudish! “.

The Depardieu camp is winding down

This is a new manifestation of the Depardieu camp. As a reminder, on Saturday, the star actor informed AFP, through his lawyers, that he was placing his Legion of Honor “at the disposal” of the French Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak . The latter announced on Friday a disciplinary procedure which could lead to the withdrawal of this prestigious award. Maître Béatrice Geissmann Achille and Maître Christian Saint-Palais also wondered in this press release whether the minister “does not (…) thus deal an additional blow to an already dying presumption of innocence”.

As a reminder, concurrently with the broadcast of the TV documentary, a second complaint for sexual assault was filed by the actress Hélène Darras, for facts a priori prescribed, dating back to 2007 on a shoot. The actor also denies these accusations. On the other hand, the broadcast of this documentary had international repercussions. The actor of “1492: Christophe Colomb” was thus removed from the National Order of Quebec and his title of honorary citizen of the commune of Estaimpuis, in Belgium.
