Kevin Costner is in heaven and he has what it takes! He introduces Horizon, the first part of a series of three westerns, at the Cannes Film Festival. He is there with his children, his friends and his performers including Sienna Miller. “My children are off fishing while I work,” he says with a bright smile. We think his offspring will be there when he is decorated by the Minister of Culture this Sunday.
The three-hour fresco he presents at Cannes is the first part of a three-film saga. “Coming to Cannes was a dream as well as a very positive signal for the film,” he confides. I am happy to see that the festival is as I imagined it. I’m not disappointed like you can sometimes be when you expect too much from something. »
Grateful to Europe
Kevin Costner plays a tired cowboy in his film which he himself partially financed. “I am grateful to France, Italy and Germany who have always helped me finance my films,” he admits. It’s funny to tell myself that I make films about America which attract more interest in France than in the United States. This was the case for Dancing with the wolves, Yellowstone And Open Range. »

France is older than the United States but it has also experienced its share of brutality throughout its history. »
The director wanted to pay tribute to all the founders of his country, whose different points of view he evokes. “I particularly highlighted the role of women, which has been mentioned too little,” he declares. They have a preponderant place in the history of the West. »

Kevin Costner is now ready to let go of his cinematic baby’s hand. “ Horizon is an independent film of which I am the author. I take full responsibility for what people may or may not like. »
His climb up the Marches, this Sunday, will be one of the highlights of the festival because the film is eagerly awaited. It’s “a good western, it’s wonderful. It’s a galvanizing film genre,” says Kevin Costner. We can bet that the Cannes public will be convinced of this.
