Gender prejudices last for centuries – knowledge

From

Jacob Wetzel

Studies show again and again that parents are important role models for their children. What does mom do, what is dad responsible for? Who cleans, who cooks, who goes to work, what is female and what is male? Parents exemplify gender roles and pass them on to the next generation. But if you want to analyze such stereotypes, it might be worth taking a look not only at the parents, but apparently also at the great-great-great-great-parents and even much more distant ancestors. According to a study, at least in places where there have been no major catastrophes or migration movements, gender stereotypes have remained surprisingly constant – not just over a few generations, but over many centuries.
