Gas, taxes, payslip… What changes on July 1

What new things will appear in the daily life of French men and women from July 1, this Saturday? From gas prices to the payslip, through the new declaration of real estate, many measures will come into force at the start of this summer. Here are the main ones to consider, according to the government.

Work and social benefits

First of all, with regard to work, payslips will be equipped with a new section, entitled “net social amount” (MNS). This figure corresponds to the amount of income taken into account for the calculation of certain social benefits, such as the activity bonus or the RSA. Its clear mention aims to simplify the procedures, and it is the first stone of the “solidarity at the source” project.

As far as social benefits are concerned, as of Saturday, their payment to non-European bank accounts will be prohibited. The unemployment benefit will also be increased by 1.9%. Also, salaries in the public service will be subject to a revaluation, with an increase in the index point of 1.5%.

Energy and administrative

In the field of energy, in order to bring French law into line with European law, regulated gas sales tariffs (TRVG) will end on 1 July. Introduced in 1946, these tariffs were associated with contracts whose prices were fixed once a year by the State. The 2.3 million customers who still had these offers will automatically switch to a “gateway” contract.

Finally, from an administrative point of view, in view of the difficulties encountered by certain taxpayers, the period for the new declaration of real estate assets has been extended until 31 July next. As a reminder, this process must be used to determine whether an owner is subject to housing tax on second homes and to tax on vacant housing. At the same time, assistance for the takeover or creation of a business will increase and the amounts of the “repair bonus” will double, with new services now eligible for the bonus.
