Before the traditional victory parade on May 9th, tanks and army vehicles from England, Germany and the USA are on display in Moscow’s streets. The trophies from the war are intended to prove that Russia is not just fighting against Ukraine.
Snowstorm in Moscow’s Victory Park, people don’t seem to care. Here, in wind and weather, they huddle around a battered German tank. “The leopard? A beautiful vehicle, but obviously not perfect,” says Jana from Moscow, who keeps her last name to herself. As a woman, she has little knowledge of technology, but the captured weapons show “the strength of our people,” she says. “They are proof that we’re not afraid of anything.” Then the woman stalks away, her hat pulled low over her face.
