In their series, the twins like to address topics such as toxic masculinity. Because even in the younger generation there are often still old-fashioned role models. They therefore find gender necessary.

The young creators of the comedy improv “Die Discounter”, Emil and Oskar Belton, find social movements such as gender necessary. “We think it’s right that such social issues have taken such an extreme turn in one direction. But of course this has created an extreme countermovement. And when that levels off at some point, we as a society have developed a tic,” said Emil Belton of the German Press Agency.

The 25-year-old twins from Hamburg, who address topics such as sexism and toxic masculinity in their series, recognize that old-fashioned role models are still often popular with the younger generation. Accordingly, many men’s comments on social media are critical of social issues.

“Many feel their lifestyle is threatened, their privileges are being questioned. Psychologically, that’s the hardest thing in the world when you suddenly have to question your worldview and your existence,” said Oskar Belton. “Such an identity crisis is a violent thing for people.”

Her new mini-series “Player of Ibiza”, which will be available in the ARD media library from Friday, is about a fictional reality show in which toxic male candidates are supposed to be introduced to feminism.
