Mercenaries, Super Mario and manga girls: dressed like their idols in video games, hundreds of fans meet in a Hamburg exhibition hall. According to the organizers, they set a world record.

Numerous fans dressed up were at the Hamburger on Sunday According to the organizers, the “Polaris Convention” video game trade fair set a world record. In so-called cosplay (composed of “costume” and “play”), participants recreate a character from a manga, cartoon or video game as faithfully as possible using a costume and behavior.

According to the organizers, a total of 492 costumed players came to the exhibition halls. In doing so, they set the world record for participants, as a spokesman for the organizers said. In 2013, 491 players came to a gaming cosplay in Finland. The result will be recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.

The organizers also announced that the players in Hamburg included numerous superheroes, pixelated retro characters and nasty villains. To be counted as a participant, however, not only a mustache from “Super Mario” was enough. The costume had to be complete, both in details and colors. “Some people work on the costume for a whole year,” the spokesman said. At the three-day “Polaris Convention”, around 200 exhibitors presented various offers from and for the gaming world.
