Numerous countries have already decided on tough sanctions against Russia because of the attack on Ukraine. Now the G7 countries want to impose more. The EU is threatening to do the same.
the G7-States have called for an immediate end to the Russian attack on Ukraine and have threatened further harsh sanctions. After a special meeting in Brussels on Friday, the foreign ministers of the group of states declared that Russia’s invasion of the neighboring country was a “blatant violation of the principles of international peace and security and of international law”.
In response “to the Russian aggression” made possible by the Belarusian government, the G7 group will “impose further strict sanctions,” according to a joint statement published by the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Russia must “immediately end its ongoing attack on Ukraine,” which is “dramatically affecting the civilian population” and destroying civilian infrastructure. Reaction to shelling of nuclear power plant
In particular, the G7 ministers called on Russia to stop its attacks in the immediate vicinity of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants. “Any armed attack or threat against nuclear power plants used for peaceful purposes” constitutes a violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The foreign ministers were reacting to the shelling of the nuclear power plant Zaporizhia, which had been set on fire during the night. Europe’s largest nuclear power plant is now in Russian hands.
The EU is also threatening further sanctions
