The taste of baguettes
Still golden, still crunchy but a little less salty. Our national baguettes will slightly change in taste this Sunday. Accused of containing too much salt, the bread adapts. The national confederation of French bakeries and pastries reached an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture in 2022. Now, for 100 g of “common or traditional” bread, only 1.4 g of salt will be authorized. As for “special breads”, they must not exceed 1.3 g of salt per 100 grams. Enough to improve the health of the French, whose bread constitutes 20% of their daily salt intake.
The price of gas
The gas bill will be higher from this Sunday. The price of gas will increase in the wake of the rise in market prices. “Between September and October 2023, the variable portion excluding taxes (HT) of a typical cooking/hot water and heating consumer increases by 9.06 euros/MWh. This increase results from the rise in wholesale gas prices after the continued decline observed in the spring and summer of 2023,” explains the Energy Regulatory Commission.
Allowance for demaritalized disabled adults
The allowance for disabled adults (AAH) is finally calculated individually from October 1, that is to say without taking into account the spouse’s income. With this reform, 120,000 disabled people in couples should see their AAH increase by 350 euros per month on average to a maximum amount of 956.65 euros per month, according to the government. Until now, this aid being correlated to the spouse’s income, it led to a form of financial dependence for the beneficiaries, according to the associations. For people already in the system, the change in calculation method will only be made if it benefits them.
Taking care of your teeth is becoming more expensive
Dental care, already known for its cost, becomes even more expensive from this Sunday. They are in fact now less well reimbursed: health insurance coverage goes from 70% to 60%. Health Insurance, which plans to save 500 million euros per year, ensures that reimbursement will not fall but will be “distributed differently”, with mutual health insurance having to cover more dental care. However, the latter are costly for the French and this decision could have an impact on their cost.
The LEP ceiling increases
The ceiling of the Popular Savings Book (LEP), reserved for the most modest households, will increase from 7,700 euros to 10,000 euros this Sunday. This decision was announced in mid-July by the governor of the Banque de France François Villeroy de Galhau and the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire, until now without a precise implementation date. Any additional payment is prohibited when the account balance in a Popular Savings Account is greater than or equal to this ceiling, specifies the decree.
Shipping costs increase for books
The objective? Establish a minimum price to protect booksellers. From October 7, the regulatory threshold for shipping costs for orders below 35 euros is set at 3 euros. Beyond this amount, the threshold will remain 0.01 euros, the one in force since a 2014 law. The objective of the legislator and the executive was to put an end to the almost free shipping costs for the majority of deliveries in order to encourage consumers to go to bookstores rather than order online.
