Free periodic protection in all public and private high schools

This is a giant leap in the fight against menstrual precariousness among Breton adolescent girls. As it had promised last year, the Brittany region will equip all public and private high schools with distributors of periodic protection. An idea that has already materialized in several French universities in recent years. Offered free of charge, these “quality” tampons and sanitary napkins will be placed in distributors which will be installed in all of the 245 public and private high schools in Brittany.

To supply distributors, the regional council voted an envelope of one million euros, allowing the purchase of periodic protection over a period of eighteen months. According to the region, the provision should take place “during the first half of 2022”. The community says it will support high schools and rural family homes in the purchase of distributors provided by the Breton company
Marguerite & Cie.

A feminist fight for the company

Founded in Lesconil, in Finistère, the company markets organic and biodegradable cotton protections. The founder Gaële Le Noane wishes to lead “a feminist fight” and “to educate young girls” in the use of organic products. “The products are made of 80% plastic. It is dangerous for our body, but also for the planet ”, recently explained Gaële Le Noane.

The region wishes through this initiative “to lift the taboo of rules from high school”. About fifteen high schools were already participating in this experiment, valued at “1 euro per month and per pupil”.
