What could be done against politically motivated violence – opinion

Right-wing extremist, anti-Semitic and Islamophobic crimes are on the rise. But complaining about it is not enough.

The outrage in Germany is now great again, as if none of this was seen coming. The figures for politically motivated crime were presented in Berlin on Tuesday. Right-wing extremists and their henchmen committed almost a quarter more crimes in 2023 than in the previous year, almost 29,000, according to the police. Anti-Semitic crimes have almost doubled, and attacks on women have increased by 56 percent. Religious fanaticism also thrives, as does gay hatred and Islamophobic incitement. Here the increase was 140 percent. These are depressing numbers.
