Francophonie Film Days in the Theatiner Cinema Munich – Munich

International Women’s Day is over, but there are other holidays coming up in March, such as St. Patrick’s Day, World Theater Day and International Laundry Folding Day. “Journée Internationale de la Francophonie” is on the calendar for March 20th, on this day the French language is celebrated around the world. The Theatiner cinema is celebrating, the “Film Days of the Francophonie” is taking place there for a week. Feature, animated or short films from French-speaking countries such as Belgium, Canada or Tunisia are shown, of course in the original with subtitles.

“Foudre” by Carmen Jaquier is also on the program, on Wednesday, March 20, at 6 p.m. This feature film debut was shown at the Munich Film Festival last summer and was shortly afterwards sent by Switzerland into the Oscar race for best international film.

The Geneva director tells a story of emancipation from the Valais Alps: In 1900, 17-year-old Elisabeth (Lilith Grasmug) is ready to take her vows after spending years in a monastery. When her older sister dies, she has to return to the farm of her strict Catholic family. Nobody wants to talk about the cause of death, but Elisabeth no longer wants to remain silent. She starts researching – and gets things moving.
