France “champion” of Europe for violent and hateful comments on X

The result will not surprise Twitter regulars as they have seen the deterioration in the quality of exchanges. According to the first transparency report on content control published this Sunday by the social network Required by the European Union’s DSA (Digital Services Act) regulations, this report made it possible to compare the number of reports, deletions and suspensions carried out by Elon Musk’s company across European countries.

Unsurprisingly, it is France which takes the lead in this first ranking. Monitoring implemented by 52 moderators led to the deletion of 16,288 messages from August 28 to October 20. This is twice as many as Germany and Spain, the most active country on the network in terms of number of registered users. If we go into the details of this report, we can see that nearly 4,300 harassing messages were brought to light, to which must be added 6,000 violent comments.

Required by new European Union regulations, the Digital Services Act (DSA) came into force in August and requires large online platforms to remove all illegal content. This did not only concern X but also Meta (Facebook, Instagram), TikTok and even Google.

“24/7” moderators

In its report, The network has 52 human moderators for the French language, compared to 81 for German, 12 for Arabic and 2,294 for English.

The social network X has been singled out by the European Commission for its lack of moderation in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
