Four people, including a teenager, die swept away by the sea

Four people died Thursday, swept away by the sea, on the northwest and northeast coasts of Spain, swept by violent winds and waves several meters high.

“Two deaths after falling into the sea in Muros del Nalón and Cudillero,” said a statement from the Emergency Service of Asturias, a region in the northwest of the country, where waves reached up to seven meters high according to the Spanish meteorological agency.

One hour of resuscitation

Firefighters hoisted “the lifeless body of a man” who had fallen from a dike in Muros del Nalón aboard a helicopter. They had been warned early in the afternoon that “a person had just fallen into the sea”.

At the same time, emergency services were called due to the fall of a woman in the port of Cudillero, her body “hitting against the rocks”. “Rescued by a boat which brought her back to port, the woman was unconscious.” Rescuers tried to revive her for an hour, but she died.

A 16 year old teenager

A little later in the afternoon, it was on the Catalan coast (northeast) that a 16-year-old Moroccan teenager fell into the water on the beach of Tarragona.

A 32-year-old German who was passing by then jumped into the water to try to help him, the Civil Guard continued, but they both drowned. The Spanish meteorological agency issued an orange alert on the northwest coasts to warn of the dangerous seas on Thursday.
