Former National Front President Jean-Marie Le Pen returns home after a “mild form of stroke”

“It’s not for this time,” laughed Jean-Marie Le Pen. The former president of the National Front (now National Rally) has been released from hospital. He joined his home on Friday after being hospitalized on Wednesday evening following a “mild form of stroke”.

“Jean-Marie Le Pen returned to his home in the middle of the day after his state of health was deemed satisfactory,” wrote his adviser Lorrain de Saint Affrique. Jean-Marie Le Pen, 93, was hospitalized as a precaution after suffering a transient ischemic attack (TIA) on Monday, a “mild form” of stroke.

Vision disorders

The far-right patriarch had lost vision for “1 minute to 1 minute and a half” during a dinner Monday evening at his home in Hauts-de-Seine (and it had nothing to do with his eye of glass).

A doctor friend had come to his home to examine him until his appointment on Wednesday evening, which followed an interview with AFP journalists during which the former politician had shown no trouble. The former far-right leader has been hospitalized several times in recent years, in addition to suffering from a milder form of Covid-19 last year.

A myriad of hospitalizations

At the end of September 2018, he had been hospitalized for more than a week due to a “persistent fever”, but any risk of bacterial infection had been ruled out.

In June of the same year, he had been hospitalized for ten days for a “dangerous pulmonary complication” of bacterial origin, after a first hospitalization for influenza contracted at the beginning of April. He then celebrated his 90th birthday in the hospital on June 20, 2018, before gathering at his home, ten days later, family and friends to celebrate this anniversary.
