For fear of being blocked, Rennes-2 University closes for two days

The news was emailed late Tuesday evening to university students and staff. Fearing a new blockage, the management of Rennes-2 took the lead, administratively closing the Villejean and Harpe campuses until Friday. “We have been informed of elements raising fears of a real desire to occupy the premises during the blocking announced this Wednesday noon”, indicates the management. As a result, all classes were canceled on the eve of the start of the February vacation.

Last week, Rennes University, the traditional spearhead of student protest, had already been blocked for four days by some students to protest against the pension reform. The blockade had been decided after a public meeting of the deputy of insubordinate France Louis Boyard.

The university restaurant also closed

The Villejean campus closed, the management of the Crous de Bretagne has also taken the decision to close its two catering areas. “This decision follows the Rennes-2 General Assembly on Monday February 13, during which student representatives announced free RU operations,” she said in a press release.

At the end of 2019, similar operations had already been carried out at the university restaurant. “This movement of demands had given rise to acts of violence, damage and theft of foodstuffs”, specifies the management of the Crous.
