Jerusalem Quartet plays concert in Amsterdam: For art, against street culture

There are perhaps twenty demonstrators in front of the entrance to the Concertgebouw. Considering the number of police officers present, much more was probably expected. But on this Saturday evening it remains quiet in Amsterdam. On the meadow opposite, the place where large demonstrations usually take place, groups of young people lie on the grass. A little way up the street, police officers lean against their buses. One takes a selfie, another shakes hands with an activist. An activist hands out flyers to passers-by with the headline: “Boycott Israel’s Cultural Ambassador Jerusalem Quartet”, “Boycott the ‘Jerusalem Quartet’, Israel’s Cultural Ambassadors”. Below is a collaged image of four musicians with instruments and machine guns under their arms.
