Rettig new DFB managing director for sports

After a long search, the German Football Association has found a new sports director. Andreas Rettig will take over the position with immediate effect.
After an intensive search, the German Football Association has the former Bundesliga manager Andreas Rettig signed on as the new Sports Director.
The 60-year-old will now be responsible for the national teams and academy, the association announced. The resolution of the supervisory board and the shareholders’ meeting to fill the position that had been vacant since the separation from Oliver Bierhoff was unanimous.
“In Andreas Rettig we have gained an extremely experienced, committed and assertive managing director. I am convinced that he will tackle the tasks ahead of us in the field of sport with great passion,” said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf.
Experienced manager
Rettig, who has been working in football for almost four decades, is taking on a new role. The football teacher was once a manager at Bayer Leverkusen, SC Freiburg, 1. FC Köln and FC Augsburg. At FC St. Pauli he served as managing director and at Viktoria Köln as chairman of the board. From 2013 to 2015 he worked as managing director of the German Football League. As a long-standing member of the DFB board, he was also responsible for the introduction of the youth training centers as commission chairman.
“Our national teams represent Germany in its diversity and performance. They are characterized by great successes and current problems. I would like to contribute to making future successes of the national teams possible again and to improve the orientation of the DFB and the appearance of its teams in all directions.” said Rettig about his new role.
The DFB has high hopes for the controversial football official. Rettig knows football from all perspectives and brings extensive skills with him. “I appreciate him as a critical spirit who always works constructively and creatively. He brings leadership experience and an international network and is an asset to the DFB as a personality,” said Alexander Wehrle, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of DFB GmbH & Co KG.
