The SAG trophies are not as well known as the Oscars or the Golden Globes, but they are recognized awards in the film business. They are also harbingers of the coveted Academy Awards.

The Hollywood Association of Actors (SAG) gave the most nominations for awards to the tragic comedy The Banshees of Inisherin and the sci-fi comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once. Both films each have five chances to win, as the association announced.

Competing with Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) in the category “Best Actor” are Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) and Adam Sandler (“Hustle”), among others. Farrell and Butler won the Golden Globes for Drama and Comedy Leading Actor on Tuesday.

Cate Blanchett (“Tár”) nominated for the SAG Trophy for Best Actress include Viola Davis (“The Woman King”), Ana de Armas (“Blonde”) and Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) . Blanchett and Yeoh picked up the Globes for Best Actress the day before.

Five films – in addition to “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” also “Babylon”, “The Fabelmans” and “Women Talking” – compete in the top category for the ensemble award for the entire cast.

The 29th SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards are scheduled for February 26 in Los Angeles. They are seen as harbingers of the upcoming Oscars in mid-March. The SAG winners are also often honored with awards at the Oscars.
