Lemke: The climate crisis moves people

Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke showed up in an interview tagesschau24 very pleased about the great response in civil society to climate protection. Many projects have been submitted to protect water and also to cool cities. Protection against the climate crisis is something that particularly moves people after this summer.

“I was very happy about the great response,” said Steffi Lemke, Federal Minister for the Environment, about the projects to combat climate change

According to Lemke, the decisive point is “that we get into the area and into practice, that we take many with us and in many places – in construction, in mobility and in agriculture – think that the climate crisis is here”. Now it’s about “expanding renewable energies, bringing down the CO2 and taking precautions”. Adaptation measures should be promoted especially in social institutions and in hospitals, where older people and children are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of the climate crisis.

Four billion euros for natural climate protection

In the next four years, four billion euros are to be made available for natural climate protection, Lemke said. The money is intended to be used as a precautionary measure, renaturing areas and protecting moors and creating more space for floodplains.
