The FDP must do more to implement what they have planned for modernization projects, said FDP Vice Johannes Vogel in the daily topics. However, not every substantive conflict is a dispute.

FDP Vice Johannes Vogel has after the defeat in the Lower Saxony election in the daily topics commented on the role of the FDP in the governing coalition. Germany is in a serious crisis, and the FDP must implement what it has planned to do more.

“Want to shape the country”

“We have to make it clear that we are not against things, but above all a pro-party that wants to shape the country.” Liberals are “self-confident people who want to take life into their own hands,” says Vogel. “If you are not satisfied with your own performance, you have to roll up your sleeves and implement FDP projects and lead the country out of the crisis stronger.”

At the same time, not every substantive conflict is a dispute. Likewise, not every compromise is a betrayal. “What matters is: can you find a good solution in the end?” says Vogel.

“We are a progressive force as Free Democrats,” Johannes Vogel, deputy FDP chairman

The modernization deficits from the Merkel era are now catching up with Germany. “With the Bundeswehr, with the gas dependency and so on.”

The FDP has a lot to contribute as “a man of conviction for an open society, but also for the market economy and entrepreneurship,” says Vogel. He is not yet satisfied with what “we have achieved overall in the government”. “These are the projects where we as the FDP have to make our voice clear.”

Regarding the fact that the FDP had lost many votes to the AfD, Vogel said that one had to ask what makes populists strong – the answer is times of crisis. The better this government is leading the country through the crisis and defying Putin in his energy war, the less breeding ground there is for the populists. “We have to do a good job there.”
