“Ulan & Bator” premiere with grandiose absurd comedy at the Lustspielhaus – Munich

It should have been obvious much earlier than at the premiere of their fourth program “Undsinn” in the Lustspielhaus: Ulan & Bator alias Frank Smilgies and Sebastian Rüger are the Monty Pythons of the 21st century. Just as people in the 1970s waited for the “funny walks” of John Cleese, the moronic characters of Terry Jones or the speech impediments of Michael Palin, a – admittedly much smaller – fan base longs for the suit-wearing Smilgies and Rüger to discover the colorful children’s knitted hats in their pockets, put them on and catapult themselves into a parallel universe beyond the usual comic conventions.
