FC Bayern will not pay a transfer fee for Eric Dier

Defensive specialist Eric Dier is already in Munich, but official confirmation from FC Bayern is still pending. Nevertheless, further information about the agreed transfer modalities is already leaking out.

FC Bayern will not pay a base fee for Eric Dier to his club Tottenham Hotspur, Sky reported on Thursday evening.

However, the 29-year-old will not be able to sign with the German record champions without anything in return.

Accordingly, the price to be paid obviously depends on the number of games ultimately played and on FC Bayern’s successes. In total, these performance-related bonus payments could be around three to 3.5 million euros, according to the TV station. There had previously been speculation about a transfer fee of four million euros.

Contract term shorter than previously thought?

“Sky” also has other information regarding the contract. While it was previously assumed that Dier would receive a contract until the summer of 2025, the initially specified term was much shorter. For now, the Englishman is only signing until the end of the season, but thanks to the option, the working paper can be extended until 2025.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the breakthrough in the negotiations between Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur was achieved on Wednesday. On Thursday, Eric Dier traveled to Munich to complete the mandatory medical check.

“He is in Munich. We are trying to sign him, finalize the deal and get another alternative for our squad,” said head coach Thomas Tuchel at the press conference before the Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim. Since Joao Palhinha’s transfer failed in the final stretch last summer, he added: “We know from experience that things can go wrong even at the last moment.”
