Tuchel after personnel concerns: Don’t change transfer strategy

FC Bayern has to cope with the next defensive loss due to Upamecano’s injury. But coach Tuchel isn’t just worried about the Frenchman. There is praise for a backup.
The FC Bayern Munich is not adjusting its transfer plans for this winter after the next injury scare.
“We will definitely not panic, injuries are also part of the season. We are not unlucky,” said coach Thomas Tuchel. “We will not abandon our strategy because of a muscle injury.”
The Munich team will have to be without central defender Dayot Upamecano for some time. “It’s a fiber injury in the back of the thigh,” said Tuchel after the 1-0 win in the Bundesliga against 1. FC Union Berlin. Tuchel was initially unable to say whether Konrad Laimer and Joshua Kimmich were also at risk of failure. Kimmich suffered a shoulder injury and Laimer left the arena limping. With Laimer the fear of a failure is greater than with Kimmich, said Tuchel. More information about the severity of the injuries should be available later on Thursday.
Trippier issue is settled
Tuchel said that there are always problems in the defensive positions. “It’s a bit like magic.” The transfer of Eric Dier has already paid off for central defense. “It was a bit of a jump into the deep end for him because Eric hasn’t played that much football for six months,” said Tuchel. You could feel his presence, his self-confidence and his experience straight away.
The Englishman, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, is intended for central defense. Munich would have a bottleneck at right back due to an injury to Laimer, as Noussair Mazraoui is at the Africa Cup of Nations after his own injury. “It’s our turn. It’s clear what we want to do – and what we won’t do,” said Tuchel.
In any case, Kieran Trippier is not moving to FC Bayern. The issue “is settled,” said sports director Christoph Freund. Freund did not want to comment on possible interest in Nordi Mukiele from Paris Saint-Germain.
