Esso announces the sale of the Fos-sur-Mer refinery and two depots

It started its Fos-sur-Mer refinery (Bouches-du-Rhône) in 1965. The Esso company announced this Thursday the sale of its Fos-sur-Mer refinery as well as that of two of its depots: those of Toulouse and Villette-de-Vienne (Isère). This transaction, “subject to customary approvals, should be finalized by the end of 2024”, specifies Esso in a press release.

This proposed sale concerns 310 employees who will thus be transferred to the buyer, the company Rhône Energies, a consortium made up of Entara LLC and Trafigura Pte Ltd. The Fos-sur-Mer refinery has a crude oil processing capacity of 7 million tonnes per year, or a little less than 10% of French annual consumption.

Esso adds that “this proposed sale is completely distinct from the announcement made today by the company ExxonMobil Chemical France concerning the planned closure of the steam cracker at its Gravenchon plant in Port-Jérôme-sur-Seine”.
